Let’s face it, the long haul is a really long haul. After 80 kilometers, everyone needs as much help as they can get. And while your personal jury might still be out on dedicated compressive apparel, a prudent compromise takes shape in the Santini Gara Bib Shorts.
For the construction of the Tempo bib shorts, Santini used the Lycra Power fabric to ensure a precise, comfortable, and compressive fit. This material supports the legs’ muscle groups through a tight, compressive weave.
Basically, according to Invista’s certification, Lycra Power reduces lactic acid buildup via increased circulation. As a result, your endurance output can be elevated by as much as 30%. You’ll also notice that the fabric supports and holds the legs’ muscle groups to minimize the detriment of fatigue from road vibration and general strain.
Additionally, Lycra Power is extremely breathable, and it has a heightened level moisture management. So, you’re guaranteed to be riding dry and cool under heavy exertions. And while high-end fabrics are fantastic, Santini’s renown emanates from its characteristically Italian design and fit.
Basically, Santini is aware that the Tempo bib shorts are made for riding, not lounging. So, each pair features a multi-paneled, minimally-seamed design that’s been cut to greet the contours of your body while in motion. On top of this, only flatlock stitching was used for the Gara’s construction.
This means that, in the saddle, you won’t experience any bunching or chafing. And to ensure that the fit remains secure, Santini incorporated its external, silicone leg grippers. These grippers apply even pressure across the leg, so you won’t experience any pinching or loss in circulation.
As for the uppers, Santini used an open mesh design that’s met with a tall brace system at the back and sides. This interface provides stability and support to the overall fit, while the mesh straps retain a high level of breathability.
As for the chamois, the Tempo bib shorts feature Santini’s exclusive GIT insert. This chamois approaches comfort from two fields — abrasion reduction and support. Starting with abrasion; the insert uses all internal stitching throughout, so chafing or irritation as a result of contact is eliminated.
Further along these lines, Santini made the chamois from two foam layers with variable densities between two and four millimeters. The top layer has an antimicrobial microfiber surface that provides constant hygiene and a smooth interface between the foam and the skin.
For support, the padding is thicker at key points of pressure across the perineum and gluteal regions, and the Twist Gel core soaks up road vibration and jarring shocks.
Additionally, in combination with the microfiber, the chamois is able to effectively reduce heat and wick away moisture. Santini has also included a small pocket to house your race radio, cell phone, or MP3 player.
