PIRELLI SmarTUBE SCORPION 29″ X 1.8/2.2 42mm PRESTA

With the new SmarTUBE Scorpion for 29″ mountain bikes, Pirelli makes the technical developments of the professional cycling world available to everyday riders. The tube has been made from thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), making it up to 70% lighter and 50% more space-saving when rolled up than a comparable butyl tube.

It reduces rotating mass exactly where it counts most: at the wheels, making your bike more dynamic and faster in acceleration. At the same time, the TPU used is more resistant than butyl, which makes the tube particularly durable.

Note: TPU is a thermoplastic material that does not retreat under extreme deformation – unlike butyl, which exhibits shrinkage behavior. TPU always requires a counterpart, in this case the carcass, to keep its shape. Therefore, the tube should be slightly pumped up during assembly (maximum 0.3 bar) and then mounted with the tire.
