RockShox’s Sid is the cross-country fork of comparison. The new Sid XX reaffirms that position as the leader. RockShox goes the step further to make it available for 29ers, 27.5, and Boost wheels.
The weight is almost freakishly light. 1572g. They’re able to get away with it thanks to a careful survey of what the fork needs and doesn’t. Because it has 80 or 100mm of travel, they didn’t need longer aluminum stanchions. They have a forged, hollow aluminum crown holding those legs. And the lowers are magnesium.
Inside the legs they have a Solo Air Spring. It is controlled by their Motion Control XX damper, which offers rebound adjustment as well as remote lockout thanks to the included XLoc remote. The rebound piston has RockShox’s Dig Valve for tuning and controlling both ends of your compression needs. Built in to the valving is Rapid Recovery, means for the shock to recover faster between hits, keeping the rubber on the ground and making sure you’re prepared for the next hit, no matter how close it is to the last hit.
The wheel is attached via a 15mm Maxle. Which is secure, easy to customize, and stiffens up the system. While it is definitely an xc fork, you can mate the brakes with rotors up to 200mm in diameter. Because tuning is essential, you can find both sag gradients and the Solo Air tuning chart on the legs.
